Survival mode: play without your USB
Stop troubleshooting. Just get sound out of the speakers when it is your turn.
- Is this set anywhere else? Your spare stick, your laptop, your phone, a cloud drive. If the files exist somewhere, borrow any empty stick, copy the tracks on as plain files and browse by folder. No cues, no playlists, but it is your music.
- Ask the DJ before or after you. Best case, they leave their drive in and you play from their library.
- If they hand you the drive, it may show playlists or it may not. Library formats differ between players, and a drive in NTFS will not mount at all. If it mounts and the playlists are missing, browse it by folder and play the files straight from there.
- Check for a booth laptop. Your USB may still read on a computer even if players refuse it. If it offers to format or initialise the drive, say NO, whoever is holding the laptop.
- Swap slots with the next DJ and use the extra time.
If there is no drive anywhere
A phone into a spare channel keeps the room from going silent. Be clear with yourself about what it is: not your set continuing, the room not stopping. It only works if you already carry a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter and a 3.5mm to twin RCA cable.
