One file, or the whole drive?

One corrupt file and a dying drive look identical from where you stand. Three seconds tells them apart, and it is the difference between playing around one track and rebuilding a healthy drive for nothing.

• Load a different track, from a different playlist. If it plays, try one more from somewhere else.

Every single track refusing on an older deck can also be the file type. Not every player decodes every format, and the player tells you which it is: UNSUPPORTED FILE FORMAT, or E-8304 / E-8305, means the file type and not the drive. The files are fine, that deck cannot decode them, and no rebuild changes that.
