Follow the cable out
- Master fader down before you touch a connector. Back up after. Hot-plugging into a live PA sends a full-level thump through it and can kill drivers.
- Reseat the master output cables, both ends.
- Swap the master pair for the booth output pair if the plugs fit (booth out is a 1/4 inch jack pair on most DJMs, so XLR house cables need adapters).
- Amps powered? In most venues the rack is not in the booth, so this is usually a question for someone else, not a thing you check.
Words for whoever runs the room
"My master is up and the meters are moving. Can someone confirm the amps are powered?"
Naming the meters matters. It is the difference between a request they have to investigate and one they can answer immediately.
