Technics
Technics is Panasonic's audio brand, founded in 1965. The SL-1200, launched in 1972 and redesigned for discotheques as the MK2 in 1979, became the standard DJ turntable of the club scene for four decades, with more than three and a half million made before production paused in 2010. The line returned in 2019. Wherever vinyl is played in a booth, the SL-1200 is the deck a DJ expects to find.
Technics is a Japanese audio brand owned by Panasonic Corporation, founded in 1965. These pages are about the decks, not the parent company: what a DJ finds in a booth carries a Technics badge.
Turntables
The MK7 is the deck you can buy. The MK2 is the deck you are far more likely to find already bolted into a booth, and it is a deck you now meet second hand or already installed rather than new.
