CDJ EMERGENCY LOOP:
WHY IT HAPPENS, HOW TO EXIT

Short version: the player reached the end of the audio it could play and looped the last beats instead of going silent. If you simply let the track run out with nothing loaded, that is the designed behaviour. If it fired while your next track was ready, or mid-track, the player could not read ahead, usually because the drive is struggling.

Why it happens
  • The USB is slow, failing, or was disconnected mid-read, the player ran out of buffered audio.
  • A corrupt file: the track's data ends before the track does.
  • Rarely: an overloaded drive full of huge WAVs on an older player's USB port.

In the moment
  • Don't yank the USB. The loop is keeping sound in the room.
  • Load your next track on the other player (from its own source if possible) and mix out of the loop.
  • Once you're safe on the other deck: eject properly and watch that drive, one unexplained emergency loop is a warning, two is a dying drive.
  • If the same track always triggers it, the file is corrupt: re-download or re-export that track.

After the gig
  • Test the drive on a computer; copy everything off it while it still reads.
  • Full-format (FAT32 + MBR) and re-export, or retire the drive if the format struggles. Reliable replacements →
