AN AIFF
WILL NOT LOAD ON THE CDJ

If the display shows E-8304 or E-8305, the file is in a format that unit does not support, and that has its own page with the per-player table: unsupported file format on a CDJ or XDJ. This page is the other case: AIFF or WAV are supported on the player in front of you, and one file still refuses.

Three players' change histories log the same fault in almost the same words: AIFF at 24-bit/48kHz stopped playing and the track could not be loaded to a deck. AlphaTheta fixed it on the CDJ-2000NXS at firmware 1.25, on the CDJ-900NXS at 1.30 and on the XDJ-700 at 1.10.

What that means at a load-in. A club player that has never been updated is still carrying this fault, and a library exported at 24-bit/48kHz will refuse on it and play fine on the unit next to it. The file is not corrupt. The firmware is old.

Two all-in-ones carry a narrower version of the same entry, without the bit depth named: certain AIFF files did not play properly, fixed on the XDJ-RR at firmware 1.03 and on the XDJ-RX2 at 1.38.

Same lesson, smaller scope. Read the firmware version in the unit's UTILITY before you blame the file.

Know the firmware of the player you are walking into. The version is in UTILITY, and the venue's rider or house engineer can tell you. If it predates the fix for that model, export the set at 16-bit/44.1kHz, which every player in this list has always played, or carry those tracks as MP3 or AAC as well.

WAV and AIFF are large. A set of them fills a drive fast, and a full drive stops saving cues. Check the free space while you are checking the firmware.

Load a different AIFF. If it plays, the first file is the problem. If none of them load and the MP3s do, the player is on firmware older than the fix, and no setting on the unit changes that.

Play what loads. The MP3 or AAC copies you carried for this exact case, or the other player if the club has one on newer firmware. Note the unit and its version for the house. Updating is a table job, not a booth job.
