The installer is not broken. Something already on the computer is in its way. Denon DJ document one cause for a driver installer that flashes on screen and stalls: a conflicting Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable already installed on Windows. The fix is to remove a specific pair and run the installer again, and the pair is not the same for every model, which is why two branches are below. Windows only; the articles carry no macOS steps.
What Denon DJ say is happening
The symptom Denon DJ describe is the driver installer halting during the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable phase, with the installer window appearing on screen only briefly before the process stalls. Their cause: "This may be due to conflicting C++ redistributable programs in your system." The procedure is for Windows; the articles carry no macOS steps.
Why removing something fixes an install. The driver package carries its own copy of the redistributable and tries to install it. If a version that Windows considers equivalent is already present and slightly different, the installer stops rather than overwrite it. Remove the resident copy and the installer puts its own in place, cleanly.
Prime 2, Prime 4 and Prime 4+
For the Prime 2, Prime 4 and Prime 4+, the fix is in Windows, not in the installer: open Add or Remove Programs, search for "Visual", uninstall both the Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) and the (x86) version, then run the driver installer again. Denon DJ note that the removed components are reinstalled by the driver installer itself.
Both architectures, not one. The x64 and x86 entries are separate lines in Add or Remove Programs, and removing only one leaves the conflict in place. Remove both, then run the installer.
SC Live 2, SC Live 4, Prime GO and Prime GO+
For the SC Live 2, SC Live 4, Prime GO and Prime GO+, the same procedure names a different pair: uninstall the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) and (x86), then run the driver installer again, downloading it fresh from the Denon DJ downloads page if needed.
Different pair, same procedure. If you followed the Prime 4 branch above on an SC Live and it changed nothing, this is why. Check the model on the front of the unit before you remove anything.
Is the driver the problem at all?
A driver is only needed when the unit is used with a computer, in Computer Mode, for Serato or Engine DJ desktop. A Prime or SC Live playing standalone from its own drive needs no driver and no computer, so an install that will not complete is a problem for the desk, not the booth.
If the unit is connected but the software does not see it after the driver is in, that is a different page, and so is the operating system not seeing it at all.
You are at the gig and the driver will not go in
Do not start uninstalling redistributables with an audience waiting. That is a table job.
Play standalone. Every Prime and SC Live unit plays from its own drive with no computer involved. Put the laptop away, load the drive, and fix the driver tomorrow.
