Can I update my laptop yet?
Vendor pages read: 18 September 2026
Booth briefing. Six DJ applications, two operating systems, each vendor's own statement side by side. Green means the vendor says it is supported and names the version. Amber means the vendor publishes a known issue you need to read before a gig. Grey means the vendor has published nothing that names this version. Red means the vendor says not supported and asks you not to update; "under review" means the vendor is still testing and asks you to wait. Nothing here is our test; it is what each maker says, linked.
The rule that outlives every row: never update the laptop in the week of a gig, and never the same day. A vendor statement says a version works; it does not say your machine, your driver and your controller work together on it. Test at home, with the controller you will play on.

macOS 27 Golden Gate, four days after release
Apple shipped macOS 27 on 14 September 2026. Two vendors, Engine DJ and Native Instruments, say it is not supported and ask you not to update. AlphaTheta say rekordbox is under review and ask you to delay. Serato, VirtualDJ and Algoriddim have published nothing that names it, which is not approval. On a gig laptop the answer today is the same for all six: stay on macOS 26 until your vendor's row turns green. Apple: "If you have a Mac with Apple silicon, you can upgrade to macOS 27." Every Mac on Apple's compatibility list carries Apple silicon; a Mac that is not on the list keeps the macOS it has. Apple, macOS 27 Golden Gate is compatible with these computers
The Windows MIDI problem, across vendors
Four of the six vendors publish the same problem in their own words: after Windows 11 updates KB5074105, KB5077181 and KB5077241, a DJ controller can be recognised by Windows and still control nothing, or a controller connected after the software opens is not detected. Serato names 24H2 and 25H2 outright; Engine DJ, VirtualDJ and Algoriddim name the KB numbers. Every one of them says the fix has to come from Microsoft, and every workaround is the same shape: uninstall the update or pause updates, connect the controller before launching, never disconnect it while the software runs. Native Instruments describe a different Windows change, one that blocks the ASIO driver for the KONTROL S2 MK3 and S4 MK3, and recommend WASAPI (Exclusive). If you play on Windows, read the row for your software before you let Windows Update run.
