CDJ NOT READING YOUR USB?
DO THIS, IN THIS ORDER

FOLDER. The database is gone. The music is not. If the drive shows up at all, even with the playlists gone:

1. Press SOURCE and select your USB.
2. Switch the browse view to FOLDER.
3. Load a track.

The player reads the audio files directly and ignores the rekordbox database, which is the part that usually died. You lose cues, playlists and sync. You keep the gig. This is the single most useful thing on this page and the one most DJs have never tried.

PRO DJ LINK. Play off the other player's drive.

If the booth is linked over PRO DJ LINK, any player can browse and load from a drive that is physically in another one. Your own drive being dead does not matter. In a club where the players are linked this is often the fastest fix available, and it is the one people forget when the room is looking at them.

Reseating the drive, a wipe of the connector, the other slot and the other player are assumed done. Listed for completeness, not as advice.

• Give it 30+ seconds, big libraries mount slowly, especially on older CDJ-2000s.
• If nobody's playing on it: power-cycle the player and try again.

• Wrong format: NTFS never works; exFAT only on newer firmware; GPT partition maps confuse most players. The universal answer is FAT32 + MBR.
• Corrupt database: player sees the drive but shows an error or empty library → see E-8302.
• Dying hardware: the drive doesn't mount on a computer either. Stop plugging it in, you're making recovery harder. There is a separate route for when the drive really is dead.
• Power-hungry drives: some SSDs and hub-style drives draw more power than a CDJ port gives. Plain quality flash drives are safer.

If FOLDER and PRO DJ LINK above did not get you playing, and you have a laptop at the venue, you can usually rescue the gig: copy your essential tracks to the computer, reformat the drive FAT32/MBR, copy the tracks back, and play them from the folder view.
